Where's the wonder in "Wonderland?"

Summer is the time when a college student can take a step into the real world and catch up on what has been happening while he or she has been trapped in the library. I just watched Alice in Wonderland (the 2010 version) for the first time. It should have been titled as the other tale of Alice, Through the Looking Glass. Although I read ex-post-facto that Tim Burton combined ideas from the two. Nonetheless, I was lead to believe it was supposed to be a remake of the 1951 Disney animated film. I was wrong.
As much as will always deprecate Disney, they did a much better job of portraying this story. I had been expecting to see some of my favorite aspects of the original film but they were not present. There were no sing-along songs; no "I'm late", no un-birthday song, no talking flower scene. I remember really liking the scene where Alice paints the roses red and in this version, she does not; dislike. I am left extremely disappointed. As far as design, I expected more from Burton. The mad hatter could have been done a lot better-you could get so creative with his character! I also expected more color, better costume design, more special effects and a better overall design of "underland." Even if I was high, I don't think I would have liked it.
One thing I did like about the film that was never clear to me before is that the Queen of Hearts is really looking for love even though she appears to rather be feared than loved. Burton did a good job of portraying good vs. evil, but the film overall was boring and lacked the imagination of a child that the original film will always have.

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?

To be nobody but yourself in a world that's doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting.

You know what? It has always worked out on its own time if its meant to be. So that's what I'm going to keep telling myself and stop worrying.

Today I'm starting my summer class. I'm taking Developmental Psych. I can't believe how fast this summer is going! I'm excited to stimulate my brain to make sure it doesn't turn to mush but I don't really care for having to sit in class for two hours, three times a week. On that note, read this: (I can't get the link to work correctly so copy and paste it into the search bar.

It sounds arousing. I want to pick it up after class. Bookstore trip! Tweet This

These are some of my favorite song lyrics.

"Goodnight And Go"
Imogen Heap

Say goodnight and go.

Skipping beats, blushing cheeks I am struggling
Daydreaming, bed scenes in the corner café
And then i'm left in bits recovering tectonic tremblings
You get me every time

Why d'ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you
Must you make me laugh so much
It's bad enough we get along so well
Say goodnight and go

Follow you home, you've got your headphones on and you're dancing
Got lucky, beautiful shot you taking everything off watch the curtains wide open
Then you fall in the same routine flicking through the TV relaxed and reclining
And you think you're alone...

Why d'ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you
Must you make me laugh so much
It's bad enough we get along so well
Say goodnight and go

One of these days, you'll miss your train and come stay with me
We'll have drinks and talk about things, any excuse to stay awake with you
You'll sleep here, i'll sleep there, but then the heating may be down again
at my convenience
we'd be good, we'd be great together.

Go!

Say goodnight and go,
why's it always always
goodnight and go
Darling not again
Goodnight and go

Characterization of a Libra

[weheartit]

Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac. Its symbol is represented by scales, signifying the desired objective of a Libra- to be fair and balanced in every way. Interestingly enough, it is the only sign not represented by a human or an animal. Libras tend to be perfectionists and pay close attention to detail. Libras are very charming and easy going. But they are also indecisive and often very stubborn. However, once they make a decision, they stick with it. Time usually proves that a Libra's initial gut feeling about someone or something was right. Libras like to know exactly where they stand at all times. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, and would rather give in than have an unnecessary argument (sometimes, a necessary one). Libras let things build up and compress their own needs and opinions in order to maintain peace. When they should be saying no, they will still say yes. Libras are the shining stars of the zodiac; they are the most desirable and are the ideal partner: composed, balanced, temperate and the most rational. Looks like Gandhi was true to his sign.
"The usual perception is that these women are delicate flowers that need protection. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Libra woman is strong willed, independent, and quick to go after what ever she wants in romance, love, or life in general." Libras have a strong romantic streak and are natural born flirts. They tend to have high expectations about love, which often leads to disappointment and broken expectations.
Libras likes the finer things in life. This often leads to Libras to be characterized as materialistic, but it's not always a bad thing. Venus the god of love is the ruling planet so of course they enjoy all things luxurious and take pride in their good taste.
Because they are very social people, Libras make great friends and great people to turn to because they have the ability to weigh the pros and cons of an idea fairly. They are known for their communication skills and excel in the arts. Libra is an air sign indicating that they are intuitive and have an instinct to dream big. Because of their indecisiveness, they may not be great leaders but they are productive and certainly pull their share of the work. Libras work best when their personal relationships with others are strong. However, they do not handle criticism very well, which often makes them seem insecure. The energy levels of Libras tend to fluctuate reflecting an inner need for balance. Yoga, pilates and tai chi are particularly beneficial because they provide the balance that Libras crave. In a nutshell, Libra’s scales are constantly weighing and measuring their relationships with others in order to achieve an optimal functioning balance.

Shakira makes Spanish sound like such a beautiful language.

Love this song, one of my favorites by her.

And this one is definitely one of her best videos. So well choreographed and artistically done. Tweet This

Good Morning!

It's such a bright and sunny day in the city. I really wish I didn't have work so I could go out and enjoy it. It seems like every day that I have off it rains. I'm off tomorrow and well, the forecast for tomorrow shows rain. My life is a joke. Kingsley has a thing or two to say about the weather. Watch this video, you will be lol-ing.

One.

I grew up in Southern California, with a very laid-back surf lifestyle and I am now surrounded by skinny jean-ray ban-fedora-wearing-urban inhabitants who have done just about everything "before it was cool."
I've wanted to create a blog for awhile. It kind of freaked me out at first because I thought it would be weird to have people reading my thoughts. But this is something that is on my bucket list, and as it is summer, I am setting out to accomplish most of the things on that list. (To be mentioned later.) I like to write and I would like to develop a voice for myself. The point of this blog is to perhaps make you laugh, but mostly to share my experiences with going to college in New York City. Definitely not what you would call typical. My blog name comes from my obsession with ridiculing hipster culture. I will probably go on and on about hipsters and people will get sick of it, but this is my first post and I am only experimenting with this whole blog thing so I will refrain. Tweet This
